Dr Ali Mirjalili, Associate Professor of Anatomy and Medical Imaging at the University of Auckland rang me one day shortly after he’d seen my cartoon/illustration exhibition at Te Uru Gallery. He wanted to meet for coffee to chat about an awareness project to educate children (and their parents) about concussion.
So after an hour of coffees we decided that an entertaining, and educational illustrated children's book about the signs and care of concussion would be the way to go, and then we would like to distribute the book to primary school children throughout New Zealand. We’ve had wholehearted enthusiasm from the esteemed Professor Richard Faull, Director - University Research Centre for Brain Research, and Professor of Clinical Anatomy and Medical Imaging at the UOA.
We’ve had an engaging storyline written by the well known children's author Kyle Mewburn… there have been many previous iterations and I’ve drawn many illustrations to present to publishers,….but we havn’t signed up with anyone yet.
But we will.
Illustrations shown are from two different concussion stories.
